mobiPARK Parking System

Nowadays, mobile phone applications are of prime importance in everyday living aiming at people’s convenience. The Municipality of Trikala, the e-trikala office and the Mobile Radio communications Laboratory of the National Technical University of Athens, Greece, have focused on the development of a mobile phone based service: Mobile phone on-street controlled parking (mobiPARK).

mobiPARK tackles the organization and administration issues of an on-street parking service in a holistic manner: fees payment, municipality police administration and patrol scheduling, fine ticket issuing, fine collection, monthly parking cards administration, usage and performance statistics creation and dispatching.

For instance, customer (the driver) can be informed about empty parking spaces and pays for parking space occupation just by using a mobile phone. The police officer is guided by the system in order to perform an efficient patrol and issues fine tickets by using a high end mobile terminal. The municipality administration services collect fines, issue monthly parking cards, schedule police patrols, evaluate police performance, study real-time system’s statistics through a simple web browser interconnected securely to the central mobiPARK system.

Additionally, mobiPARK makes a step further towards the police on-line idea. mobiPARK mobile terminal offers additional to on-street control parking patrol services: the police officer can use the electronic device in order to handle fine imposition for non controlled parking violations such as driving law violation, illegal pavement occupation, illegal advertisements, etc. Finally, the officer can inform the municipality technical services about broken roads and pavements, wastes and other events in a real-time basis through the mobile terminal. Each event includes a geographic position in order to facilitate technical services work.

mobiPARK is fully developed by the Mobile Radio communications Laboratory of the National Technical University of Athens, Greece and it is offered to municipalities and other (on-street and off-street) parking administrators as a service. System escalation and adaptation to parking administrator needs guaranties a complete coverage of needed requirements.
